PAKIT™ Unveils New Generation of Sustainable Packaging Machinery
2006-02-20

Vancouver, BC, Canada – February 20th 2006
PAKIT™ Inc., a Canadian/Swedish developer and manufacturer of machinery and tooling for the production of sustainable fibre based moulded board packaging products, will unveil its new generation PAKIT™100 manufacturing system at PAKIT’s™ European office in Norrköping, Sweden on March 20th, 2006.

PAKIT’s™ new generation of packaging machinery, the PAKIT™ 100, enables faster, more flexible production runs at a lower cost than current industry processes. The forming process creates packaging with a fibre network twice as dense as the industry average while delivering superior characteristics when compared to conventional fibre moulded products.

Using PAKIT’s™ technology, products produced from fibre are thinner, and offer a superior smooth exterior surface significantly improving logo and advertising print quality. The technology makes it possible to form products with complicated shapes from, compartmental plates, clamshells and trays for the food industry to protective packaging for the electronics and pharmaceutical industries, with no risk of cracking or deformation. The high density of the fibre network, added to the natural advantages of fibres, results in product that is smooth, rigid, resistant to moisture and grease. Products can be manufactured using a wide variety of virgin and recycled natural fibres.

PAKIT’s™ unique manufacturing process produces compostable, biodegradable, sustainable packaging products with significantly improved strength and fine finish quality compared to competing products and technologies on the market today.

The PAKIT™ 100 was designed to operate using a closed-loop water system, thereby reducing water usage and further increasing energy efficiency. The dryer is based on a specially developed microwave system that avoids the high costs normally associated with large conventional oven drying installations resulting in lower costs and avoids the common problem of warping.

The manufacturing system is of modular design and has a small footprint. A full line requires only 400 square meters (4300 square feet). Each machine can produce 40-60 million units per year depending on product size.
